Tableau has released this week the 2020 Data Trends report, an analysis written based on interviews with customers and experts in the area. The report covers topics like artificial intelligence, data storytelling, and data management. The first trend pointed out by the company is “data literacy. ”
The data literacy trend tends to gain strength as more and more data becomes available, but a lot of professionals don’t “speak data.” The study points out that poor data literacy prevents companies from creating a data-driven culture and benefiting from it. According to the report, 80% of organizations will invest in development to overcome extreme deficiencies in data literacy.
The fast-pace of digital marketing makes it especially important for marketers to be able to “speak data” and to tell stories based on data insights. Resources like data visualization, in-depth knowledge of different types of data, and knowing how data attributes, hierarchies, and database work will become a differential in the market. To continue innovating, marketers need to be data literate at all levels.
